A PRIMER ON COMMUNISM

You may be asking yourself….
…. WHY SHOULD I CARE ABOUT COMMUNISM?
America is a Constitutional Republic, right? I don’t plan to go to any Communist countries like North Korea. Didn’t Communism disappear when the wall fell in Europe many decades ago?
THE ANSWER IS NO.
Communism never died. It just morphed into a different shape.
Knowing that it couldn’t win against America’s superior military, Communism (which back then came mostly from the U.S.S.R.–Russia) looked for other ways to enter into the minds and hearts of Americans in order to change America from within. It used stealth and deception to become the enemy that America didn’t recognize as an enemy. Communism, Marxism to be exact, is alive and well in this country and has steadily wended its way into your life and into your country to the extent that it has become an imminent existential threat to America—to American freedom, prosperity and way of life.

Right now, in fact, there are many Communists in very powerful positions, including within the highest levels of government, in America. In fact, in many ways this country is closer to being defeated by Communism than we ever have before.

WAIT A SECOND……
That can’t possibly be correct, you say. America has the best defense system in the world! Our leaders would have done what they could to combat it if Communism were really that close to governing this country. WE all would have known if we were being infiltrated, especially if they have been using this tactic for many years, right?
THE ANSWER IS NO.
Communists have used a sophisticated combination of stealth, infiltration, psychological manipulation, deception and ideological subversion to make their way into nearly every sector of society. They changed their expectation of victory from immediate, to being content to win small victories little by little through the years until they finally reached their goal. This process has taken nearly a century, and Communist countries have put millions of dollars into financing this propaganda-style weapon.
WHO WERE THEIR ATTACKS FOCUSED ON?
When you think about war, you imagine physical battlegrounds, right? You think that the targets would be other soldiers, or buildings or some sort of fought-over territory.
But the territory that was the target of these Communists was all of America, was, in fact, the American people themselves. They craved totalitarian control, not just externally but internally.
“We will bury you,” said Russian leader Nikita Kruschev. And he promised to do it without firing a single shot.
WHAT WOULD TEAR APART A STRONG COUNTRY LIKE AMERICA?
Communists analyzed the weak spots in America where they could do the most damage. Before the 45 Communist Goals were read into the Congressional Record in 1963, what Communists saw when they looked at Americans was well-educated, relatively moral people whose families were mostly intact and whose communities were relatively cohesive. They saw a country that, though not perfect, was founded upon Judeo-Christian values and Constitutional principles. They knew THAT ALL OF THAT NEEDED TO CHANGE in order to weaken America’s integrity before they could be successful at defeating America.
The weak spot in America’s defense against Communism, the perfect target, was the people themselves. The unsuspecting citizens of America would not be able to see through their deception–they were not used to people lying to them. Even though Sun Tzu had said centuries ago that all war is based upon deception, they did not see these infiltrates as enemies. There was this classical notion of integrity that permeated Western Culture that no one would seek to betray at such a deep level. Even Dante described those in the lowest circle of Hell as those who commit treachery –traitors like Judas who come as a friends, but who instead are actually enemies. But even enemies, we thought, would not be liars. America would not expect an enemy to raise a white flag, for example, in order to get the other side to lay down their weapons and be vulnerable to enemy fire. Integrity was a value that made one a legitimate part of a civilized society. Only the truly criminal would make their entire identity a lie. Character mattered.
But character did not matter to the Marxists in their quest to conquer the world. To them, the end justifies the means. Truth was not a treasured value among our enemies. And the lying was not limited to what they told others, but what they told themselves—that they did it all to work towards a utopia that even reality could not imagine.
So, the enemy weaponized American trust, American compassion, American freedom, even American Christianity, against Americans. They came as friends and associates, pretending that their goal was to make things better. They used Orwellian language — a phrase describing something good to hide their intent to do evil. We saw them as friends and fellow Americans, they saw us as patsies and enemies, and weaponized whatever characteristic we had, including our compassion, our trust and our good will, against us, in order to destroy and defeat us.
Americans couldn’t wrap their brains around the concept of that kind of evil.
Communism’s “long march through history” began many years ago and has a recognizable pattern. Recognizable, that is, as long as you understand their methods. Right now, we are steeped in Communist propaganda, and most people in America have no idea that this is going on.
So, before I begin, I will start with a terrific video from 1983. Yuri Bezmenov, a former KGB agent, defected to America and even way back in the 1980’s warned that Communist Russia had chosen a new method attacking us and were already immersed within our culture, actively changing it from a free Republic to a Communist totalitarianism. His lesson on Ideological Subversion is both entertaining and extremely informative. His predictions for the future are spot on.
According to Bezmenov (known originally by a pseudonym to avoid detection after his defection), Communists use 4 stages of political warfare to ideologically transform a targeted society.
STAGES OF IDEOLOGICAL SUBVERSION
- DEMORALIZATION
- DESTABILIZATION
- CRISIS
- NORMALIZATION
Hear Bezmenov’s description of ideological subversion in this video:

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!
The stealthy approach to ideological subversion was coined “the long march through the institutions,” which meant that Marxists would change ideas, institution by institution, through subversion, infiltration, deception and a generations’ long method of transformation.

Fr. Mitch Pacwa, in the movie “Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing” above, describes the dangers of Alinsky’s tactic of “rubbing raw the sores of discontent” in order to motivate people into action. It creates conflict and often results in violence. In Fr. Pacwa’s case, it resulted in the death of a young man.

The Long History of Marxism in America — Bella Dodd’s School of Darkness
The Communist infiltration of America began many years ago. See the link below to read about one Communist from the 1920’s who revealed many of the secrets of her early Communist colleagues, infiltrates from Communist Russia, in her autobiography, “School of Darkness.”
One secret was that the party had infiltrated over a thousand priests into the Catholic church, and many of them, by the 1950’s, had ascended to high positions within the church. This actually explains a lot and is a testament to the resilience of the Church through the ages despite human corruption.
Another revelation was that although there are young people or naive people (Saul Alinsky called them “useful idiots”) who are true, idealistic believers in the promises of Marxism, truly trying to make the world a better place, the people behind the scenes are just using them for their own selfish purposes. Those behind the scenes do not intend to build anything or accomplish any goal except revolution. Once a purported goal has been met, the Communist party becomes upset by anyone who believes that the revolution is over no matter how much has already been accomplished. As James Lindsay says, “the issue is never the issue, the issue is always the revolution.”
Another observation from Bella Dodd’s autobiography is that by nature, Communists have no regard for the concerns or welfare of other people. They use people and then discard them (sometimes brutally) when they are no longer useful for their purposes.
History has shown this pattern over and over again. Mao, for example, groomed and supported his “Red Army” of youthful volunteers until they were no longer needed for his current agenda. He then exiled or even murdered them. This is a pattern that should not be ignored by today’s modern American “Red Army” of violent youth who are organized and commissioned by Marxists to do damage or worse during “mostly peaceful” protests. Communists do not care about any cause, they merely want to ignite a free army of people angry enough to wreak havoc. So, for example, the Socialist party added Palestinian Intifada to their agenda before a class on Communism at a local university. Setting aside the problem of the obvious antisemitism involved in that sentiment, the Communists had no real affinity for the issue, except that it was a way to add angry people to its free soldier roster to assist in destabilization efforts. The same goes for other Marxist organizations posing as those concerned by race or any other issue. The ultimate goal is always destabilization and destruction—the revolution itself, not peace nor the welfare of anyone else.
In fact, if you read some of these authors mentioned above, you will see that the conflicts that appear to be about those who care about genuine issues, are actually only psychological manipulation methods to destabilize a culture—to divide a society of people in order to conquer them. It’s all a ploy, a deception, and many people, especially people in modern society, fall for it.
School of Darkness by Bella Dodd

Related to the psychological manipulation involved in the Communist capture of a country is the fundamental principle behind ideological subversion itself. Whether the lust for power comes from National Socialists or Communist Socialists, whether they are called Socialists or Communists or Progressives or even Technocrats, these people are all puppet masters. They are all in the end focused on obtaining power and control. It’s all deceptive. And it’s all evil. So here is a look at how psychological manipulation became so prevalent in modern society.
Edward Bernays’ Propaganda
https://archive.org/details/in.ernet.dli.2015.275553/page/n7/mode/2up
https://archive.org/details/Propaganda_Edward_L_Bernays_1928.pdf/page/n1/mode/2up
The father of propaganda, Freud’s nephew Edward Bernays inspired many despotic figures, including Joseph Goebbels, Hitler’s minister of propaganda. Basically, Bernays believed that people were too stupid to govern themselves and needed experts to guide them using covert methods that psychologically manipulate the masses into buying anything from products to presidents. His book, “Propaganda,” is free at Archive.org. The link is listed above.
The idea of psychologically manipulating other people was quite effective for those who wanted power. So effective, in fact, that governments and covert agencies began to use this psychological manipulation tactic in many other ways, including when they sought to overthrow countries or manipulate their own people into doing what they wanted the people to do.

One Idea to Rule Them All
So, what do you do if Communism has taken over your country?
First of all, you resist. Perhaps the most important type of resistance is a commitment to the truth. And this is how. In the immortal words of Alexander Solzhenitsyn, LIVE NOT BY LIES! Click on the link below to read his eloquent exhortation to others caught in that web of lies.
LIVE NOT BY LIES
https://www.solzhenitsyncenter.org/live-not-by-lies
Modern author Rod Dreher wrote 2 books on the subject. After interviewing people from Communist countries, his book, “Live Not by Lies” offers practical solutions for those facing a similar horror, survival advice from recent victims of Communism. His other book, “The Benedict Option,” recounts the story of a saint who, horrified by the chaos caused by the fall of Rome, developed a new way of life for Christians. “He built enduring communities based on principles of order, hospitality, stability and prayer. His spiritual centers of hope were strongholds of light throughout the Dark Ages, and saved not just Christianity but Western Civilization.”
A similar idea has been advanced in recent years. The emergence of parallel entities have brought sanity back from the powerful worldly corporations that previously ran everyone and everything. A parallel economy allows like-minded people to support the businesses that support their values. Parallel media has resulted in breaking the grip-lock on information by the often-compromised media and has restored truth and free speech to the free marketplace of ideas, rewarding those who provide real information and entertainment. Parallel schools and parallel ways of life, such as small communities of close families that step back from the control of worldly companies, share resources, teach children, and promote healthy families and communities. We have a long way to go, but significant progress has been made within only a few short years.

WHAT NOW?
The battle is not over yet. We have not yet fallen into complete Communist rule–we have a few months left at least. There is still hope that we can turn the greatest nation that ever existed around and save it before it is too late.
1. We can pray as a nation and return to God. Joel 2:12+ 2Chronicles 7:14+ Our God is a fount of miracles—our God can do anything and may yet save us if we return to Him. Luke 1:37. 2. We can become aware of what is happening and help others to become aware. Hillsdale College is offering a free course on the history of Marxism, Socialism and Communism, for example. https://online.hillsdale.edu/courses/marxism-socialism-communism
3. We can learn what makes America great and return to those values. Hillsdale also has free courses on the Constitution, among other things.
https://online.hillsdale.edu/landing/constitution-101
4. We can take action, not only by doing our duty as voters but doing our duty as citizens, encouraging others who care about this country to become more involved, by becoming actively involved ourselves in our communities, working to make them better, protecting our families and towns and working towards the good that will make us all thrive.
https://www.leadershipinstitute.training/courses/citizen-ninja
https://www.leadershipinstitute.training/collections?utm_source=li-ondemand
5. We can return to the values that made America great—strengthen our families and our communities. We can reverse the 45 Communist Goals that were aimed at robbing America of its integrity and its strength. Just as a ship without integrity takes on water, the 45 Goals were focused on demoralization of America. Read into the Congressional Record in 1963, none of the goals had yet been completed. But little by little each one of those goals was realized, and since 1963 Communists destroyed America’s integrity and her strength, which became the first step to causing her to sink.
6. We can rebuild our beloved ship. We can refuse to live by lies, refuse to remain silent in the face of evil. We can walk back on the evil that we allowed to happen to our nation while we were sleeping and make America good again so we can make America great again.
7. And we can unite together in love. Here’s one last hopeful message to leave you with. May God bless you always and may God bless America!
